M.A., B.A.(Hons), D.Hyp, PDCHyp, MBSCH

A psychotherapist with over 12 years experience, I first qualified at diploma level in clinical hypnotherapy in 1999, before following this up with the practitioner diploma in 2007, a qualification that enables me to practise as a trauma practitioner using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). In 2010, I went on to successfully gain a Masters level qualification in dramatherapy at Roehampton University, and I have since undertaken Level 1 and Level 2 training as an Internal Family Systems practitioner, which is currently the fastest growing model of psychotherapy in the United States. This extremely client-friendly model supports the individual to explore inner conflicts and restore trust in their Self as the natural leader of their internal system.

I offer caring, experienced, professional help with issues arising from anxiety, stress, anger, depression, low self-esteem, weight gain, early-life trauma (emotional, physical, sexual), phobias, OCDs, eating disorders, addictions, tobacco dependence, relationship difficulties, and more.

I am passionate about psychotherapy, and in particular, about the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of working therapeutically, which sees the human mind, not as a single entity, but as a collection of internal personalities or parts. The model takes the view that all our inner parts have valuable qualities, and that they all retain an underlying intention and desire to play a constructive role within our lives as a whole. Sometimes, however, our life experiences force our parts out of their intended roles, causing our system to reorganise in extreme ways that can lead to inner conflict and dysfunction. This in turn can create conditions where a wide range of symptoms start to show themselves, from mild anxiety and stress, to more serious conditions, such as self-harming, substance misuse and depression. I feel my role as therapist is to help the client’s parts out of their extreme positions and to guide them towards a more harmonious collaboration characterised by reduced symptoms and an improved sense of wellbeing.

Also central to this way of working is the idea that each of us has a core Self, a healthy, healing energy that lies at the centre of our being. However, when our inner system becomes conflict-ridden and dysfunctional, our Self can lose power or become displaced. Yet the Self never loses its potential to be the natural leader of our internal network of personalities; indeed, it always retains its intuitive capacity to help each part, to recognise what parts need in order to feel safe, and to know how parts can release troublesome burdens, some of which they may have been carrying for a very long time. My role as a psychotherapist is to support individuals to an empowered Self-led state that will help bring a new healthy balance to their internal and to their external lives.
